How do I set up my unmoderated recruitment session?

Unmoderated studies are studies that do not require you to setup a meeting with a participant. Instead, they can complete the study autonomously and on their own time. You receive the submitted answers for review and analysis. These studies can be simple online forms and surveys, or a more complex set of instructions coupled with video and / or audio recordings.

On Tandemz, you are able to recruit participants to your unmoderated studies, whatever the format and tools you wish to use - as long as your tool provides a sharing link.

Currently, unmoderated recruitment on Tandemz is in Bêta - this means that some features might be missing or not working as intended. As part of the Beta, unmoderated recruitment is also restricted to 300 participants maximum, with B2C targets only.

How to create an unmoderated study

  1. Launch a new study with the New Session button from your dashboard

  1. Select that you want to recruit within Tandemz' community (recruiting by yourself is currently unavailable)

  1. Select Unmoderated online tasks

Type of study

  1. Select the type of task you will request from participants, according to whether you'll ask them to record their audio / video / screens or not.

  1. Select the duration that it will take one average person to complete the study

We advise you add 5 to 10min to your estimate, as experience shows that researchers tend to underestimate the time participants need to read and process the questions.

  1. Select your targeting option, according to how precise you need to be
  • With the broad option, target on a limited amount of criteria. This option is best suited for studies that can be answered by almost anyone.
  • With the precise option, you can target more precise demographics and add as many screening questions as you need.

Targeting options

  1. Once you've chosen your option, enter the amount of people you'd like to get answers from for this study. For the Beta, you are limited to 300 answers maximum.

Here, you can either accept this pricing and move on with the reste of the setup, or save a quote for later review.

Don't worry, if you click on "Continue", your study will be created as a draft, but will not yet be launched!

Setting up your study

  1. In the study settings :
  • Give your study an internal name - this is for you and your team, participants will not see it
  • Adjust the number of participants if needed
  • Tell us where your study will be released: this changes the language in which we will communicate with participants
  • Click on Save and continue

Study settings

  1. In the public information:

The goal of this information is to encourage participants to apply to your study!

  • Give an engaging title
  • Add a public description explaining who you are and why you need to do this study.
  • Adjust the study's time if needed
  • Click on Save and continue

Public information

  1. Add you demographic criteria:

Demographics example

  1. Add your custom screener questions
With Broad recruiting, you can not add any screening questions.

  1. Configure your study link

  • Add the final link to your study here. This can be a Maze link, a Typeform, a Google form link...
  • Add a description explaining anything that people might need to complete your study - things like how many questions to expect, whether they'll need to have their phone on their side, etc

Add you link

  • Copy the link that is given below, and add it inside your end study.

Copy this link

Depending on your final testing tool, this redirection can be automatic at the end of your study, or if that is not possible, you can display it and let participants click it. Check out the guide for each tool, for instance : Maze / Typeform / Google Form / SurveyMonkey

  • Choose how you'd like to record participants ID

Recording IDs

We recommend using an url parameter to record the id.Check out how to do it on : Maze / Typeform

Some tools, such as Google Form, don't allow to pass a url parameters - in this case, you will need to add a question at the beginning of form requesting participants to paste their ID in your form. If you choose this option, we will provide an easier way for participants to paste their IDs.

  1. Review your study and add your payment method

  1. Click on the launch button!

And then what happens?

We will not start recruiting right away.

First, someone from our team at Tandemz will test the whole study, in order to make sure that everything has been well setup, and especially, that the connections between your final link and Tandemz are working.

Recruitment will start for real only after this step is complete.
